Spontaneous Buckling Induced by the Adsorption of Charged Copolymers at the Air-Water Interface

چکیده
~Ve present results of the adsorption of charged diblock copolymers at the free interface between air and solution. These copolymers are water soluble and act as surfactants above some concentration. Through thermodynamic and diffuse X-ray surface scattering measurements, we demonstrate the influence of the concentration on the formed adsorbed layer. While sufficiently long copolymers adsorb by forming structures which do not deform the interface, short copolymers are shown to induce buckling of the interface due to interchain

Adsorption of Methylene Blue from Aqueous Solutions by Silk Cocoon
This study concerns the performance of cocoons spun by silk worms as a natural adsorbent for removal of Methylene Blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. To study the adsorption process, the effect of various parameters such as contact time, adsorbent dosage, dye initial concentration, and pH of the solution were investigated. According to the experiments, the kinetic data were best described by ...
متن کاملInteractions between nonpolar surfaces coated with the nonionic surfactant hexaoxyethylene dodecyl ether C12E6 and the origin of surface charges at the air/water interface.
The interactions between nonpolar surfaces coated with the nonionic surfactant hexaoxyethylene dodecyl ether C12E6 were investigated using two techniques and three different types of surfaces. As nonpolar surfaces, the air/water interface, silanated negatively charged glass, and thiolated uncharged gold surfaces were chosen. The interactions between the air/water interfaces were measured with a...
متن کاملAdsorption of PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymers with end-capped cationic chains of poly(2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate).
We study the adsorption of a symmetric triblock copolymer of ethylene oxide, EO, and propylene oxide, PO, end-capped with quarternized poly(2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate), DMAEMA (DMAEMA(24)-EO(132)PO(50)EO(132)-DMAEMA(24)). Light scattering and tensiometry are used to measure the relative size of the associated structures and surface excess at the air-liquid interface. The adsorbed amount,...
متن کاملSelf-assembly of an ultra-high-molecular-weight comb block copolymer at the air–water interface
The self-assembly of a newly synthesized, amphiphilic comb block copolymer (CBCP) at the air–water interface was systematically explored using the Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique. The CBCP had an ultra-high molecular weight (Mw 1⁄4 510 10 g mol ) with polystyrene arms grafted along one block of long hydrophilic backbone. At the air–water interface, the CBCP molecules spontaneously assembled in...
متن کاملEnergetics of adsorption of neutral and charged molecules at the air/water interface by second harmonic generation: Hydrophobic and solvation effects
Surface second harmonic generation has been used to study the adsorption of alkyl phenols and anilines and their respective ions to the air/water interface. The free energies of adsorption of the neutral molecules were obtained using a simple Langmuir model. The quantitative effects of the opposing hydrophobic and solvations forces on molecular adsorption were investigated by varying the chain ...
